Girls Take 2nd at Philadelphia Catholic League Champs!

Our Indoor Season met its culmination this past Sunday as both our Girls’ Team and Boys’ Team competed in the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship at Lehigh University. In this article, we shall be going over all the events, splits, and honors from the meet on the Girls’ side! We are so insanely proud of the way our athletes performed and carried themselves during their League Championship meet!

 

As a change of pace, leading off the meet we had our field events kick things off! The Girls’ started off strong in the Pole Vault, taking 1st and 2nd place respectively. Senior Paige Geiger ’22 is your Catholic League Champion in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 7-6, which is a new PR! Sophomore Henrietta David ’24 also PR’d with a clearance of 7-0, which took home the silver medal! Transitioning to the High Jump, Paige Geiger ‘22 took 4th place with as clearance of 4-4 and Shania Williams ’23 took 7th place jumping 4-2!

 

In the Long Jump, we had Morgan McFadden ’23, recently coming back from injury, take second in the Catholic League with a jump of 15-9.50! Shania Williams ’23, doing all the field work, took 8th place with a jump of 13-1.25. We had a trio of girls in the Triple Jump, Shania Williams ’23 took 4th place with a PR jump of 30-11.5, Olivia Smirawoska ’23 took 5th place with a PR jump of 30-11, and Natalie McFadden ’23 took 8th with a jump of 29-5.5! Wrapping up the field events we had Jibola Banji-Ajala PR with a throw of 17-6.

 

Moving to the track, leading off the meet was the 4x200m Relay consisting of Jill Rozdzielski ’25, Molly Botthof ’25, Henrietta David ’24, and Adriana Deieso ’23. The team competed hard, even with dropping the baton, and ran a team time of 2:06 which was on the outside looking in on a scoring position in 7th place. Here were the splits:

Jill: 29.7

Molly: 31.5

Henny: 30

Adriana: 35

 

Following that event was the Distance Medley Relay consisting of Anna Lombardi ’23, Cailey McCloskey ’22, Chelsea Ritter ’23, and Natalie McFadden ’23 which took 2nd place in the Catholic League with a team time of 14:15.08! Here are the splits:

Anna (1200): 4:14 PR

Cailey (400): 69 Season’s Best

Chelsea (800): 2:37

Natalie (1600): 6:09 PR

 

In the sprint portion of the meet, our girls met their challenges head on. Starting off in the 60m Dash Prelims, Adriana Deieso ’23 and Olivia Smirawoska ’23 both put down fast times. Adriana PR’d and ran a 9.03, while Olivia also PR’d and ran 8.26 which brought her back for finals! In the 60m Hurdle Prelims, Olivia Smirawoska ’23, Sabrina Krumenacker ’22, and Paige Geiger ’22 all put times quick enough to come back to finals as well!

Olivia: 10.48 PR

Sabrina 11.00

Paige: 15.22 (re-ran her preliminary because of a lane violation)

Olivia came back in the 60m Dash and took 4th place running 8.33! Olivia, Sabrina, and Paige all cam back in the 60m Hurdles. Olivia took 3rd running 10.18 which was a PR along with a PA Top 50 time, Paige took 4th with a 11.06, and Sabrina took 5th place running a time of 11.29!

 

In a hotly contested Mile race, Rebecca Dalton ’22 and Carly Marquess ’22 looked to improve on their indoor seasons. Rebecca took 3rd place in the Catholic League running a time of 5:58! Carly improved on her year and took 9th place with a time of 7:19 which was a season’s best!

 

In the 400m Dash, Chelsea Ritter ’22 looked to improve upon her strong indoor season and improve she did. Chelsea took 2nd in the Catholic League running a new PR and setting the 40th fastest time in Pennsylvania with a 61.65 (59.7 is Archbishop Ryan’s Indoor School Record, set by Taylor Woods ‘16)!  Cara Marquess ‘22 also looked to set a new PR in this event and that she did! Cara battled and set a new PR of 1:23.67!

 

Moving to the 200m Dash, Olivia Smirawoska ’23 took 4th place again running a quick 27.60, missing third by .01 seconds. Ynobe Robinson ’22 looked to bounce back in this race and ran a respectable 30.51!

 

Next on the track was the 800m run, both Anna Lombardi ’23 and Chelsea Ritter ’23 looked to ride the momentum from the DMR and the open 400. Ride they did, they took both 1st and 2nd place, with 800m Catholic League Champion Anna Lombardi ’23 running a 2:35 and Chelsea running a 2:37 to take 2nd place!

 

Following the success of the 800, Rebecca Dalton ’22 and Spring Garner ’24 was tasked with the 3000m. Rebecca battled for 5th place overall with a time of 12:37! Spring PR’d by more than a minute and took 7th place with a time of 13:10!

 

Wrapping up the meet we had the 4x400m relay and then the 4x800m relay, first up the 4x4. The relay team consisting of Jill Rozdzielski ’25, Carly Walsh ’23, Molly Botthof ’25, and Ynobe Robinson ’22 took 3rd place in the Catholic League running a team time of 4:46.66! Here are the splits:

Molly: 69

Carly: 72

Jill: 69

Ynobe: 72

 

In the 4x800m Relay, the team of Anna Lombardi ’23, Natalie McFadden ’23, Cailey McCloskey ’22, and Chelsea Ritter ’23 took 1st place and are your Catholic League Champs in the 4x800m! Here are the splits:

Anna: 2:42

Natalie: 2:49

Cailey: 2:54

Chelsea: 2:39

 

All in all, it was a great day for our Ragdolls, cumulatively putting up 114 points as a team and taking 2nd overall in the Catholic League. We’ve had numerous Personal Records, All-Catholics, and a few PA top 50 times ran on Sunday! Here is a breakdown of those who got All-Catholic nods:

 

1st Team All-Catholic: Chelsea Ritter ’23 x3 (400m, 800m, 4x800m), Anna Lombardi ’23 x2 (800m, 4x800m), Paige Geiger ’22 (Pole Vault), Natalie McFadden ’23 (4x800m), Morgan McFadden ’23 (Long Jump), Cailey McCloskey ’22 (4x800m), Henrietta David ’24 (Pole Vault)

2nd Team All-Catholic: Rebecca Dalton ’22 (Mile), Olivia Smirawoska ’23 (60m Hurdles), Anna Lombardi ’23(DMR), Cailey McCloskey ’22 (DMR), Chelsea Ritter ’23 (DMR), Natalie McFadden ’23 (DMR)

 

3rd Team All-Catholic: Olivia Smirawoska ’23 x3 (200m, 60m Dash, Triple Jump), Paige Geiger ’22 x2 (High Jump, 60m Hurdles), Shania Williams ’23 (Triple Jump), Sabrina Krumenacker ’22 (60m Hurdles), Rebecca Dalton ’22 (3000m), Molly Botthof ’25 (4x400m), Jillian Rozdzielski ’25 (4x400m), Carly Walsh ’23 (4x400m), Ynobe Robinson ’22 (4x400m)

We could not be prouder of our Girls’ performance this past Sunday, it was the culmination of a season of hard work, but we are certainly not done yet. We have a couple athletes that may qualify for Indoor States, but Outdoor is right around the corner and this team is fired up!
